The nursery reveal

With two weeks until baby BBB is scheduled to arrive, I am pleased to report that her room is now complete.

When it came time to putting together the nursery, we were fortunate enough to start with a blank canvass, almost literally.

As what is now a nursery, was little more than a plain extra guest room ‘before’ – just waiting to be filled and decorated.

I found a great furniture deal online at a baby shop in Brisbane, which allowed us to purchase all the ‘big ticket’ items as a package. Free delivery included…

Shipping crate and all! It doesn’t get much easier than that!

Then, after an evening of construction (I directed the show?!), our crib, change table and dresser were all complete, and our former spare guest room had started to look like a nursery.

Just waiting for some colour.

Even though we found out we were having a baby girl quite some time ago, I wanted to keep the nursery fairly gender neutral. Nothing pink, nothing too girly. But a room rich in warm wood, green and orange filled my imagination, and things kind of took off from there.

I chose some linen during a trip to Melbourne, that added a little cute factor…

And just the right amount of green!

I also found some prints online (through etsy and other sources), which I framed and hung on either side of the room.

And, with my family living interstate,  I also wanted to include them in the room.

So we printed off various family photos and hung them at the doorway as you enter the room. I can’t wait until Miss BBB is a little older and we can point out her Nan, Pa, Uncles and cousins – who may not live nearby but who already love her so much. There is little doubt, however, about my two favourite items in the room.

This gorgeous custom-made chair, including matching ottoman.

Is it wrong that I have been sitting in it already when reading?? And two…

This bright orange lamp shade!

That I put together using a shade I found at Beacon lighting, and a silver base I found at Target.

And after….

So there you have it…our nursery. Which is now probably my favourite room in our house.

All that is missing is baby BBB!

  1. This is beautiful!! I love that you didn't make it stereotypical pink, this is much nicer and could last you (and your daughter 🙂 ) a really long time. And that chair is definitely reading worthy!

  2. love all the green and wood in the room but most of all I love the photo board – it is so important to find ways to include faraway family in a baby's life! All very thoughtful

  3. that looks FANTASTIC! can you come across the ocean and decorate mine please!?

ANY DAY NOW for you!!! every time i see a post pop up i think – maybe she's in labor 🙂

  4. I love the nursery!! And I especially love the turtle linens!! I am with you, i probably wouldn't want my child's room to be too gender specific .. I really like the greens, yellows and that orange lampshade! She's almost here!!
