Let them eat cake… or a GF chocolate torte!

Training: Body Pump IMG_5610  I feel as if the BBB kitchen has been alive with energy recently. I have spent quite a bit of my free time working on new recipes, for no real reason other than I love to cook. It seems, however, that my kitchen creations are outnumbering my blog posts, so I have a few dishes to catch you up on. This cake came about when I invited some friends over for dinner. IMG_5515 I wanted a dessert that I could make in advance, that was both delicious and allergy friendly. IMG_5517 I believe this GF chocolate torte was just the cake I was looking for. IMG_5534 IMG_5536 Not only was it super easy… IMG_5557 Super fudgy… IMG_5569 IMG_5605 and super rich… IMG_5551 It kept for days, and the flavours only became more intense as the time went on. IMG_5570 The cake is so rich that it didn’t need any icing. Rather, I opted to garnish it simply with a generous sprinkle of icing sugar, IMG_5565 And a punnet of fresh blackberries. IMG_5553 Which were actually a last minute addition when I saw them on sale at my local green grocer! This is definitely one cake that I will be making again. IMG_5600      IMG_5597        IMG_5592 And again. Super rich GF chocolate torte This is a super rich cake, with a fudge –like texture. The cake can be made in advance (up to step  7) and kept in an airtight contained in the fridge for a day or two. The flavours will continue to develop, resulting in a rich sweet cake. It may be relatively heavy in sugar, but I promise that you only need a small slice to satisfy even the strongest chocolate craving!

  • 250g dark chocolate
  • 200g butter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tbs amaretto or almond essence
  • 200g caster sugar
  • 1/2 cup ground hazelnuts
  • 1 cup ground almonds
  • 6 eggs
  • Punnet of berries
  • Icing sugar to dust
  1. Preheat oven to 160C. Grease and line the base of a round spring form cake pan.
  2. Melt the chocolate and butter together until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the chocolate mixture with the cocoa, sugar and amaretto until smooth.
  4. Add the ground nuts and beat until combined.
  5. Add the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each one is incorporated into the mixture before adding the next one.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 50 minutes. Allow to cool in the pan.
  8. Remove from pan, top with berries and sprinkle with icing sugar.

  1. Delicious!! I'm not really a dessert person though :/ H makes some delicious ones for me the last being a white chocolate encased lime curd tart but as amazing as it was I'll always be a savoury girl.

  2. Looks yummy. Will have to put this one in my to-try folder :-). My go-to desert used be a lemon cheesecake but these days I try to make different things. Luckily most seem to be successful. Of course, with now being "almost" vegan I'll need to be trying new recipes or altering our old ones.

  5. Ooh that looks so good. I have my Dad's 60th coming up and I am on dessert. I wanted to make something chocolatey and need to make a cake a couple days ahead as we will be coming back from Sydney, so this looks perfect!

  6. I just toss them Snickers bars. Haha, just kidding. I usually make some kind of lemony dessert, because I have a lemon tree and it just makes it so much more meaningful. 🙂

    The torte looks incredible though, and as if it took you a lot of work!
