Moves and meal planning…

Training: Ride 31km Another Friday = another commute to and from work. I must say that it was rather chilly when I set out from home at around 6.00am this morning. My fingers were numb after the first few minutes, even though I was wearing thick gloves. Spring may have sprung, but there is still a hint of Winter in the air. The ride home, however, was much warmer – possibly assisted by the final 5km that is all uphill. I actually rolled my sleeves up because I was too hot at one point *gasp* One thing that I have noticed is that running makes me peckish, swimming makes me hungry, but cycling makes me starving. Tonight was no different and after showering I headed straight to the kitchen in search of food! Starting with a protein shake for post-biking recovery fuel…. IMG_0400 Lucky for me the chilli I made the other night was done so in such large proportions that I had leftovers not only for last night’s dinner, but also tonight’s. While the chilli was reheating on the stove, I poured myself a glass of wine (it is Friday night after all!) and sat down to work on our meal plan for next week. IMG_0412 (this is actually quite a small glass despite appearances…I promise…..) As I normally do our grocery shop on Saturday, I like to prepare a list on Friday night to take along with me. I find that if I shop without a list I end up with too many things I don’t need, and none of what I do. I started by drawing out 3 ingredients from the ever-reliable Mystery Box for inspiration, and I must say that I am pretty excited about the ingredients I selected. IMG_0407 After a little research (both online and using my ever growing collection of recipe books) I decided on our various meals for the week incorporating the selected Mystery Box ingredients… IMG_0398 Can you guess what the Mystery Box  ingredients are? Then it was a matter of translating the meals into a useful shopping list for me to take tomorrow… IMG_0410 Broken up between the greengrocer, supermarket and butcher. Side note: I was actually surprised that I had to include any spices on the list given how well stocked my mother in law’s spice drawer is. Check it out… IMG_0403  Well stocked but missing cinnamon, cardamom pods and cumin seeds. With my Friday night "chores" completed it was then time to sit back with a bowl of steaming chilli, served with feta and avocado, and a good amount of corn chips for dipping.  IMG_0414 Coupled with another glass of vino, because it is Friday night after all 😉 I have quite a big weekend planned including HIM training sessions, dinner with friends/family and the usual domestic chores (amongst other things).  It’s gonna be fun! What about you? What are you looking forward to this weekend? Happy (Friday) baking 🙂

  1. My goodness you have lovely handwriting!

Things I'm looking forward to this weekend – a sleep in! (it's been a long week!); spending some of our wedding vouchers at Peter Jones; doing my garden; my friend's 30th birthday party on Saturday night; afternoon tea with another friend on Sunday; a long run on Sunday (before afternoon tea, to earn it!) and finishing my book 🙂

Have a good one Lisa! xx

  2. I think you have the neatest handwriting I've ever seen in my life! Wow!

Looking forward to coffee with a friend and visiting my grandma in hospital tomorrow, then a friend's birthday lunch on Sunday 🙂

  3. Oh my goodness – your handwriting is beautiful!

This weekend I'm looking forward to: sleeping in, a tailgate party (by our local stadium – I've never been to a tailgate party!), watching a DVD, working on a screenplay, and spending some quality time with my husband!

  4. Haha I'm joining the queue of handwriting admirers! As someone that scrawls, I wish I could that neatly! 😮 And this might be a stupid question, but what is in the protein drink? It looks like a delicious fruit juice and I always thought that protein shakes were like milkshakes.

  5. Every week I try to plan out dinner and every week I fail. Something always happens-either I get home from work too late or suddenly I'm not in the mood for what I had planned. If I can make one meal with leftovers during the week I'm happy.
    Happy Friday!!

  6. I love meal planning! That spice drawer is quite impressive, I must say. I am planning a movie night tonight with the kids, I'm still trying to recover-we have a wedding tomorrow! I'm worried I still won't feel good, so I think a couple of green monsters are in my immediate future! ps-I love your glass of wine!

  7. haha my spice box looks so similar! its hard tho cuz i sometimes grab the wrong spice container just cuz i have so many.. not fun when basil gets poured on pineapple instead of the cinnamon lol

ur writing is so eloquent and beautiful btw!

    xoxo

  8. Wow that's some spice drawer – it must be hard to find things in there though. All you meals for the week sound so yummy – unfortunately I have to think about the girls when planning mine :-(.
No plans at all this weekend so far… which is nice (for me anyway).
